The climate of Turkmenistan, heavily influenced by the presence of the mountain chain of Kopet Dağ, is essentially continental and is characterized by strong seasonal thermic ranges and scarce preci-pitations. In the central regions of the country
the rate of raininess does not reach 200 miliimetres per year. The climate in the interior of the country is generally very dry, while little higher rates of atmospheric humidity are recorded
in the region situated along the Caspian Sea. The temperature in wintertime can be very rigorous with the lowest values reaching sometimes -25°, while summertime is characterized by a torrid weather
often excee-ding 40°. The intermediate seasons are generally characterized by pleasant temperatures and are preferable for visiting the country. The desertic region of Karakum is beaten by strong
winds that cause frequent sandstorms.
