Situated in the southwest region of Central Asia, Turkmenistan is constituited by a low ta-bleland delimited to the south by the impo-sant mountain chain of
Kopet Dağ and to the north by the Turanic lowland. The central re-gion of the country is occupied quite enterely by the Karakum Desert, a vast sandy zone characterized by the presence of takyrs, pecu-liar hollows of large dimensions separated by the dunes generated by the strong winds blo-wing in the region.
