The official language of Turkmenistan is the Turkmen, a language very similar to Turkish proving for strangers very complicated. Rus-sian, utilized prevalently in the world of work and of business, is also widely diffused. On the other hand, English is not widely diffused
and it is spoken only in hotels and in the places most frequented by tourists. The Turkmen language belongs like Turkish to the family of Altaic languages and it was adopted as official language in 1991 with the constitution of the new independent state. Originally written in arabic characters, during the Soviet period the Turkmen
adopted the Cyrillic alphabet utilized for Russian. ->
