Customs rules in force provide that foreign citizens declare at the entry into the country the currency and the valuables possessed. It is important to observe these rules since on leaving the country the exportation of an amount of currency exceeding the value declared at the entry is not allowed. Customs rules regulate also the exporta-tion of goods of peculiar value like works of art, archaeological finds, jewels and carpets. As regards carpets, in particular, for their exporta-tion it is necessary to apply to the competent authority at the Carpet Museum of Ashgabat for the obtainment of the specific authorization. In any case the exportation of ancient carpets is forbidden.
